The senate has announced the passing away of Senator Uche Chukwumerije (from Abia State), who died yesterday after a long battle with lung cancer. He was
the Minister of Information during the June 12 1993 election crisis. Also Senate President, David Mark, has expressed shock over Chukwumerije’s death, saying: “He radiated intelligence and exemplary conduct in both public and private life. He was a team player who brought meaning to hard work . He was focused and determined to make positive difference.”
He was elected into the Senate under the PDP platform in 2003 but fell out of favor with the party and came back 2007 under PPA (Progressive Peoples Alliance).
