Almost two weeks after he was kidnapped
by unknown gunmen, the Caretaker Committee Chairman of Ahoada East Local
Government Area, Chief Cassidy Ikegbidi, has regained freedom.
Ikegbidi was released by his captors on
Monday, even as a source close to the local government said no ransom
was paid before he regained freedom.
The council boss was kidnapped on April
18, 2015 at his residence in Yiboko community by unidentified gunmen who
wore camouflage.

For
many days, members of his family had expressed fear over the safety of
their breadwinner as his captors refused to contact any of them for
ransom.
The Press Secretary to the council
chairman, Mr. Blessed Oyagiri, said on Monday that Ikegbidi was
currently receiving treatment.
Oyagiri explained that everybody in the
local government area was excited over the release of the chairman,
adding that Ikegbidi was released without any ransom.
