No safety equipment: sewer cleaners in Mumbai

Imagine the smell, the stench, how it stinks, the odour that will glue to their olfactory lobes in their brain forever and health implications. This is what the sewer cleaners of Mumbai in India are exposed to because no provision of safety and health equipment/gadgets.
The Mayor of Mumbai said she didn't know about this shortcomings and will be corrected immediately. But the workers didn't believe in her statement.
Every day Mumbai produces enough sewage to fill 4,500 Olympic-size swimming pools. Despite the many modern comforts of Mumbai, the sewer system is outdated and is still cleaned by hand. At least once a year the manhole covers are removed and a worker is lowered down with only a helmet for protection.
